Handwriting makes a really big difference in child development, teaching children self-discipline, effective communication, spacing, form, movement, control, and boundaries.  Additionally, handwriting provides opportunities for organizational thought processes and memory retention. Schools all over the country are recognizing this, but this who will teach the teachers?  We will!

Join us for an online class on how to teach handwriting!  January 23rd...National Handwriting Day.  Its online, so its as convenient as your computer, tablet or smart phone.  All materials are provided upon registration.  For details about this upcoming class, or how to get certified as a Cursive Coach, please click here!

Tennessee Recognizes Handwriting Importance

Tennessee Rep Sheila Butt and Tanya Radic
Tennessee state representative, Sheila Butt (Left),  and Tayna Radic are photographed as the Tennessee Handwriting Bill has been signed into effect, December 15, 2014.

This is an awesome achievement.  We are so glad that Tennessee has led the way to bring back this valuable life-long skill to the students in their basic curriculum!

Other states are considering this as well.  Many are dropping out of the Common Core Education so that they can have the freedom to encourage classes, like handwriting, back into their basic educational system.

State Proclaimed Handwriting Day In South Carolina

Picture
Concerned citizens, headed by Earl Dean and members of his Handwriting Group, contacted officials in their State of South Carolina office.  They reasoned that we have a National Handwriting Day, and South Carolina should also designate this day.  And so it was written, the proclamation for Handwriting Day for the State of South Carolina to be celebrated on January 23rd.

State Proclaimed Day in Florida for Handwriting Day

Judy Stevens also contacted the Commissioner in her state of Florida.  On January 23rd she will be provided the proclamation that Florida also celebrates Handwriting Day.  Picture to follow.

John Steinbeck Library in Salinas California

Jack Hammond, teacher, will be celebrating National Handwriting Day 2015 with California State representatives and superintendents and other members of the communities, at the John Steinbeck Library and Museum in Salinas, CA.  Jack caught their attention in his message:

“What if an increase in academic intelligence, emotional intelligence and a reduction in bullying could be accomplished with a single technique? It can!  Cursive writing is that technique. Especially when coupled with strict adherence to top, left and right margins. Cursive writing modulates brain functions which are responsible for learning and impulse (self) control. With this foundational skill in place, kids will be more able to attend to other important things."

Pennsylvania celebrates National Handwriting Day with Signatures and Autographs

Picture
Southwestern Pennsylvania native, Valerie Weil, has been invited to create two presentations to Sewickley Public Library in honor of National Handwriting Day.  The first will induct elementary age children who practice their signature into the John Hancock Club.  With a feathery pen and parchment paper, the kids get to sign their name to the sheet that will be displayed at the library, in recognition of the importance of handwriting, and pledge to practice.  Each inductee gets a "writers kit."  The second workshop is for teens and young adults that want to learn more about signatures, autographs, and digital signing and how this all affects their future "mark" on the world. Each attendee gets a journal kit to keep writing.
